Bilbao – Guggenheim

Posted: April 30, 2013 in Spain 2013

Don’t even know where to start today… We had breakfast in the hotel and met up with the Oudejans. Walked through Bilbao and went to the Guggenheim museum.

The Guggenheim is full of modern artwork. There is a strong overarching emphasis on the response by the art community to the changing world of the early 1900s. The world became a very ugly place and the art reflected it. The museum helps give meaning to the art work of the 1930’s – 1950’s and explains why Picasso was the hero of the day.

Torrecilla en Cameros

Posted: April 29, 2013 in Spain 2013

We checked out of Logroño this morning and visited fellow Spacecoast Frozen Hurricane skater Tiffany and her husband Michael at their villa in Torrecilla en Cameros. This is a quiet little village in the mountains. It was VERY cold this morning with snow visible all around us on the mountain peaks. We walked around and even met the villa owner Joquin and his greyhound.

Espana

Today is the second (and last) day of the competition. Lots of nationalism in the stands. We’re sitting with a lot of Spanish fans!

Our last night walking around in a light rain. This is the side of the cathedral where I thought the lighting was pretty cool.

Ice Rink + Tapas (Pintxos)

Posted: April 27, 2013 in Spain 2013

Saturday flew by. Started the day getting to the rink at 6:20a for our adult team’s practice session. Came home for siesta and then returned for the compulsory (short program) for both the adult team and novice team. Both teams skated well, but struggled to place well against tough competition. Competitors are from Spain, France, Kazakstan, Russia, Australia and the USA. Tomorrow should show off our club’s strength.

Watched Athletic Club tie FC Barcelona 2-2. Messi’s goal was brilliant. Finished the day at a great little tapas/pintxos bar we found.

Logrono Walk About

Nice morning walking around Logrono. Medium sized city with a lot of pedestrians. Old town is cool. Having fun hanging out with Ashley, Tara and Natasha. Ran into the Oudejans too!
